TU a top 50 best value private university

The University of Tulsa is a top 50 best value among private universities for 2015 as judged by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine.

The publication ranked TU #47 on its list of private research institutions, with its calculations based on measurable data such as student-faculty ratios, admission rates, test scores of incoming freshmen, on-time graduation rates, tuition, fees, room and board, and financial aid. Quality criteria account for 55 percent of total points, and cost criteria account for 45 percent.

“These latest rankings reflect the work and dedication of our students, our faculty and our staff. TU students are of the highest caliber. They select our university because of its academic reputation and because our admission and financial aid staff ensure they have the means to attend,” said TU President Steadman Upham. “On campus, they find engaged faculty who offer the support and guidance needed for students to excel in the classroom and succeed in their careers.”

TU is deemed the best value among universities, public or private, in Oklahoma. Kiplinger’snoted that private universities typically offer more generous financial aid in the form of need-based and merit-based assistance and have better graduation rates than public colleges.

Ninety percent of freshmen at The University of Tulsa received financial aid this past fall. TU also boasts an 11-to-1 student-faculty ratio, and 75 percent of incoming freshmen graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school classes.
